Program Notes
Concert # 97
Sunday
July 20th, 1997
3:00 p.m
At the Bandstand
Fred Jewell's E Pluribus Unum will set the tone for this program, and will
be balanced by Sousa's Invincible Eagle.Even so, the band will take an
excursion to Russia with the Russian Sailor's Dance, and a trip to merry
olde England with a musical adventure of Robin Hood by Lester Brockton (pen
name of Mayhew Lake) -- this 75-year-old selection has nothing to do with
any modern film versions. A jazzy version of songs about cities, My Kind
Of Towns, will lead us to Louisiana, where we knee-slap to the Louisiana
Buck Dance.
Word sheets will be handed out for the Old Timer's Waltz Medley.
For a cool and relaxing change, the band will perform Pachelbel's notorious
but melodious Canon.
Two selections about man-woman relationships are the Bacchanale from
"Sampson and Delilah" and a medley from "Guys & Dolls." Maybe we should
say three -- since we're also playing Meet The Flintstones.
